Many blocks, one order

Blocks made at the same moment, put in one agreed order.

A chain keeps one block at a time and throws the rest away. A block-DAG keeps blocks made at the same moment and then agrees on an order for all of them. Make some blocks and watch the order form.

The agreed order

Every block, genesis first. It can change for the newest blocks until enough blocks build on them.

A teaching sketch of GHOSTDAG ordering, simulated in your browser. Not ATON Chain's code.

// how it works

GHOSTDAG, simplified.

  • Each new block points at every tip its maker has seen, so blocks made at the same time are kept, not orphaned.
  • Each block picks its selected parent: the parent with the most blue blocks behind it.
  • A block is blue when few enough blocks were made in parallel with it (at most k of the blue ones). The rest are red: still kept, ordered later.
  • The order follows the chain of selected parents, and fits each block's newly merged blocks in after its parent, every block after the blocks it points at.
  • This is a teaching sketch running in your browser, not ATON Chain's code.

Building a chain of your own?

We build private and public networks, their nodes, explorers and wallets, and we run our own block-DAG, ATON Chain.
