Grower credentials

Sustainability proof any buyer can check on a public chain.

A sustainability certificate is only useful if a buyer can trust it without phoning the certifier. Anchoring credentials on a public chain lets anyone check them, which matters when many buyers ask many growers. For one buyer and a handful of growers, a signed PDF is simpler, and we will say so.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Issued by the certifier, not the grower

Only the certifying body can issue or revoke a credential, so a grower cannot alter one and a buyer knows who stands behind it.

02

No farm data on chain

The chain holds a fingerprint of the credential, never yields, inputs, locations or names.

03

One check for every buyer

Buyers scan a QR code or open a link and see whether the credential is genuine, current and not revoked.

04

Open standards

Credentials follow the W3C Verifiable Credentials format, so tools other than ours can read them.

Sustainability credentials

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

Growers are asked by several buyers for proof of sustainable practice, and each buyer receives a different PDF it cannot easily check or trust.

// What we would build

Credentials issued by the certifying body to each farm when an audit passes, anchored on a public chain so any buyer can check that a credential is genuine, current and not revoked, without calling anyone. Only a fingerprint of the credential goes on chain, never farm data. If a single buyer is the only one asking, a signed PDF and a database do the job for less, and we will say so.

// What is in it

  • Credential issued by the certifier after an audit, in the W3C Verifiable Credentials format
  • A fingerprint anchored on a public chain, with no farm data on chain
  • Growers share a credential with a link or a QR code
  • Buyers check it is genuine, current and not revoked in one step
  • Revocation and expiry handled by the certifier
  • Smart contract tested and independently reviewed before launch

// Stack

  • Solidity
  • Polygon PoS
  • W3C Verifiable Credentials
  • Next.js

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Do growers need a crypto wallet?

No. Growers receive and share credentials through a web page or an app; only the certifier and the checking page touch the chain.

Who pays the network fee to anchor a credential?

The certifier. Fees on a low-cost public chain are small, and we set them out apart from the build before you commit.

Which certifications can be issued this way?

Any the certifying body agrees to issue: organic, regenerative or a buyer's own programme. The certifier must take part; we do not issue credentials on its behalf.
