Forestry crew bots

Roads, restrictions and hazards, on Telegram.

Crews already carry phones, and most already use a messaging app. A bot that sends the right road and fire notices to the right crews, and takes their hazard reports back, replaces a chain of phone calls with a record.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

The right notice to the right crew

Notices go by operation and road, so a driver on one block is not flooded with closures on another.

02

Hazards with a location

A driver reports a washout or a downed tree with a photo and the phone's location, and the supervisor sees it on a map.

03

Seen, and recorded

Each crew member acknowledges a shutdown or restriction notice, and the supervisor can see who has not.

04

No new app to install

Crews use Telegram on the phones they already carry, so there is nothing to roll out beyond a join link.

Road status and hazard bot

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

Road closures, load restrictions and fire danger ratings reach contractor crews by a chain of phone calls and group texts, and someone always misses one.

// What we would build

A Telegram bot that posts road status, load restrictions and fire danger ratings to each operation's crews, lets drivers report a washout or a hazard with a photo and location, and keeps a log the supervisor can read.

// What is in it

  • Road status and load restrictions by road and operation
  • Fire danger ratings and shutdown notices pushed to the right crews
  • Hazard reports from drivers with photo and location
  • Acknowledgements recorded, so the supervisor knows who has seen a notice

// questions

Questions we get about this.

What if a crew is out of coverage?

The message arrives when the phone next connects, and the missing acknowledgement shows the supervisor who to reach by radio.

Why Telegram for a crew bot?

It works well on poor connections, handles photos and locations, and its bot interface is open and stable. A Discord or SMS version can be scoped if your crews prefer it.

Can fire danger ratings be pulled in automatically?

Where the provincial service publishes them in a form we can read, yes. Otherwise a supervisor posts them from a short form.
