Evidence timestamping

File fingerprints on a public blockchain, for legal teams.

Proving a file has not changed since a given day is a narrow job a public chain does well: anyone can check the record, and nobody, including us, can alter it. We also explain the alternative, a trusted timestamping authority, because for many firms it is enough.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Fingerprints only

Each file is reduced to a fingerprint in your browser. The document itself never leaves your systems and nothing confidential is published.

02

Checkable by anyone

The other side, the court or an expert can verify the fingerprint against the public chain without trusting the firm or us.

03

Reports a court can follow

The verification report explains in plain language what was recorded, when, and how to check it independently.

04

Honest about alternatives

An RFC 3161 timestamping authority gives a similar proof without a chain. We set out the difference and build whichever suits your matters.

Evidence on a public chain

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A firm needs to show that a document or a set of files existed in a given form on a given day, and an email timestamp is easy to dispute.

// What we would build

A service that records a fingerprint of each file, never the file itself, in a small contract on a public chain, with a portal to register files and produce a verification report. A trusted timestamping authority under RFC 3161 does a similar job without a chain; we explain both and you choose.

// What is in it

  • Files fingerprinted in the browser, so the content never leaves your systems
  • Fingerprints recorded on a public chain anyone can check independently
  • A verification report showing the fingerprint, the block and the time
  • Batch registration for evidence sets and disclosure productions
  • A contract audited before it is deployed

// Stack

  • Solidity
  • Ethereum layer 2
  • Next.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • AWS

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Is a blockchain timestamp accepted as evidence?

That is for your practitioners and the court to judge in each case; we do not give legal advice. What we provide is a clear, independently checkable record and a report that explains it.

Do confidential documents go on a public chain?

No. Only a fingerprint is recorded. It cannot be turned back into the document, and the document stays in your systems.

What does each evidence timestamp cost to record?

Fingerprints are batched into one transaction on a low-cost network, so recording is a small running cost. The estimate shows hosting separately from the build.
