Ad delivery ledger

Advertiser, agency and publishers agree on one count.

When advertiser, agency and publishers each keep their own count, invoices wait while the counts are argued. A ledger that each party writes to and none can rewrite is a narrow, honest use of a blockchain. If everyone already trusts one ad server's figures, keep them.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Every party's numbers, side by side

Daily figures from each party are recorded and matched per placement, so a difference is visible the next day.

02

A node per party

Advertiser, agency and publishers each run a node, so no one holds the only copy of the record.

03

Invoices from agreed totals

Once the figures match, the agreed totals feed invoices on both sides, without re-keying.

04

No tokens, no public chain

The ledger is private and permissioned. It records delivery; it does not pay anyone.

Impression reconciliation ledger

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An advertiser, its agency and a group of publishers each report different impression and click counts, and invoices sit unpaid for weeks while the difference is argued.

// What we would build

A private permissioned ledger the advertiser, agency and publishers each run a node of, where daily delivery figures from each party are recorded and matched, with a portal that flags differences while they are small. If everyone already trusts one ad server's numbers, keep them; the ledger is for when nobody does.

// What is in it

  • Daily delivery files from each party loaded and checked
  • Each party's figures recorded on a private chain with a node per party
  • Differences flagged per placement and per day, not per month
  • Agreed totals feed invoices on both sides
  • A trail of every figure and every change for audit

// Stack

  • Next.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • Hyperledger Besu (private, permissioned)
  • Ad server reporting APIs
  • Google Cloud

// questions

Questions we get about this.

When does a ledger beat an ad server report?

When the parties do not all trust one report, or several publishers are involved and each keeps its own count. If one report is already accepted by everyone, a ledger adds cost without much benefit.

Must publishers change their ad server?

No. They send the same delivery reports they produce today, by upload or through an interface.

Can the ledger hold viewers' personal data?

It should not, and we design it not to. It records aggregate delivery by placement and day.
