Utility system integrations

Billing, meters, GIS and work orders, joined.

Most utilities run five or six systems that each hold part of the truth about an account, a meter or a main. Nightly exports keep them roughly in step. An integration hub joins them through one API, checks what passes through, and tells you when something did not arrive.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Meter reads checked on the way

Reads are checked for gaps and odd values before billing sees them, and exceptions are held for a person.

02

One API in front

Your systems talk to the hub, not to each other, so replacing one later means one new connector.

03

Built on what you have

Each connector uses the system's published API or export. We check yours before we quote.

04

Watched for you

Every message is logged, and a failed one raises an alert on your support plan.

Each one is hypothetical, labelled as such, and priced live from our rate card. Open any of them in the estimator and make it yours.

Utility integration hub

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A multi-utility billing water, sewer and district energy runs a billing system, a meter data head-end, GIS, a work order system and finance software that do not talk, so staff export and import files every night.

// What we would build

An internal integration hub that joins the five systems through one API: meter reads flow to billing, new accounts reach the work order system, and service addresses stay in step with GIS. Each connector is built on the system's published API or export; we check yours before we quote. We run it for you, with monitoring and alerts.

// What is in it

  • One internal API in front of billing, meter data, GIS, work orders and finance
  • Meter reads checked and passed to billing, with exceptions held for review
  • New and closed accounts passed to the work order system the same day
  • Webhooks so a system hears about a change instead of waiting for a file
  • Monitoring, alerts and a log of every message, run on a support plan

// Stack

  • Node.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • OpenAPI
  • Billing and meter data APIs
  • ArcGIS REST API
  • AWS Canada

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Can the hub connect to our AMI head-end?

If it has a published API or a file export, yes. Most do. We check yours before we quote.

Does the hub write to SCADA?

No. The hub joins business systems. Control systems are never written to.

What happens when one of our systems is down?

Messages wait in a queue and are sent when it is back, and you get an alert if they wait too long.
