LIMS rescue

An old or stalled lab system, reviewed and finished.

Many labs run on a LIMS someone built in Access or FileMaker years ago, and some have a vendor replacement that stalled halfway. We review both, write down what is worth keeping, and then finish the job in milestones, with every record moved, checked and traceable.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Findings in writing

What the old system and the stalled one do, what holds up, and what each path would take.

02

Nothing lost on the way

Every sample, study and audit record moved and counted, with differences shown to your team.

03

The old system kept read-only

Your old database stays readable until your quality team is happy to retire it.

04

Your quality team decides

We build to their requirements. Validation and sign-off stay with them.

LIMS reviewed, then rescued

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A contract lab still runs its studies on a LIMS built in Access fifteen years ago, a vendor replacement stalled half done, and nobody can say which of the two to trust.

// What we would build

We start with an architecture review of the old system and the stalled one, and write down what is worth keeping. Then we rescue the work: a web LIMS built to the requirements your quality team sets, every record moved and checked, and the old database kept read-only until your team signs off.

// What is in it

  • A written review of the old LIMS and the stalled replacement, yours to keep
  • Samples, studies, results and audit history moved out of Access, and checked with your team
  • Roles, electronic sign-off and a full audit trail, to the requirements your quality team sets
  • Instrument results and reports carried across
  • The old database kept read-only until you retire it
  • Milestones you sign off, each one shown working

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Our LIMS was built in Access by a scientist who has left. Can you still move it?

Almost always. We read a copy of the database, map every table, and check the moved records with your team.

Can you review a vendor's half-finished LIMS before we decide?

Yes. The written review is yours to keep, whether or not we do the rescue.

Will the new LIMS keep our audit history?

Yes. The history comes across with the records, and the old system stays readable as a reference.

Tell us what you have in mind. We will come back to you with a range and the questions that would narrow it. Or book a call and talk it through.
