Chemical batch records

Batch records, QC and labels on the plant floor.

A chemical batch is a record before it is a product: which lots went in, what they weighed, what QC found and what went on the label. We build batch record and QC systems for the plant floor, so that record is complete when the batch is, not reconstructed after a complaint.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Weights read, not typed

The scale's weight is read straight into the batch record, so a transposed digit never reaches the drum.

02

The approved formulation, step by step

Batch tickets follow the approved formulation, and a change needs the approval your process sets.

03

Lot genealogy in one search

From a customer's drum back to every raw material lot, and forward from a supplier lot to every shipment.

04

Labels from the record

Drum and tote labels print from the batch record and approved templates, never from typed text.

Batch records with QC

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A specialty chemicals plant runs batches from printed tickets, operators write weights by hand, QC results are in a separate spreadsheet, and tracing a customer complaint back to raw material lots takes days.

// What we would build

Electronic batch records on rugged Android scanners at each station: the operator scans each raw material lot, the scale weight is read, not typed, and steps follow the approved formulation. QC results are read from lab instruments against the batch, and each drum is labelled from the record. Formulations are restricted by role, with every view logged.

// What is in it

  • Batch tickets from the approved formulation, step by step, on the plant floor
  • Raw material lots scanned in, and weights read from the scale
  • QC results read from instruments and set against the specification
  • Drum and tote labels printed from the record, never typed
  • Lot genealogy from raw material to customer shipment, in one search
  • Rugged scanners, mobile computers, label printers and labels listed by quantity

SDS and technical portal

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A coatings and adhesives maker sells in Canada, the US and Mexico, keeps safety data sheets and technical data sheets as files by language, and its customer service team spends hours emailing the current versions.

// What we would build

A customer portal on the company's brand with every product's current SDS and technical data sheet in English, French and Spanish, versions kept with their approval history, and an assistant that helps customers choose products from the technical data sheets. It runs on an open-source model in the company's own cloud account, so formulas and drafts of new sheets never leave it. For safety questions the assistant links the current SDS and never paraphrases it.

// What is in it

  • Every product's SDS and technical data sheet, by language and region, with the current version marked
  • Version history with who approved each sheet and when, kept by your regulatory lead
  • Customers notified when a sheet they downloaded is revised
  • An assistant that answers product selection questions from the technical data sheets and cites them
  • Products and customers read from your ERP
  • A portal on your brand, in English, French and Spanish

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Can the batch record app read our scales and instruments?

Most scales and lab instruments have a serial, network or file output we can read. We check yours before we quote.

Does it replace our ERP for chemical production?

No. Products, orders and inventory stay in your ERP. The batch record reads from it and posts back what was made.

Who approves formulation changes in the system?

The people your process names. The system enforces the approval steps you set; it makes no technical judgement of its own.
