Chemicals software

From the formula to the drum label, one record.

Every drum you ship carries a formula, a batch, a test result and a safety data sheet that must all agree. We build the systems that keep them in one record: batch records that read the scale, SDS libraries that know which version is current, and portals where customers find what they need without emailing you.

// what you are up against

The problems we hear most.

01

SDS versions in a shared drive

Safety data sheets live as Word and PDF files in folders by language, a customer asks for the current one, and nobody is sure which file that is.

02

Batch records on paper

Operators write weights and times on a printed batch ticket, QC results are in another system, and a customer complaint means a day of searching binders.

03

Formulations only two people can open

Formulations sit in spreadsheets with a password, decades of experiment notes are in notebooks, and R&D starts each project from memory.

04

Shipping papers typed twice

Dangerous goods information is retyped from the order and the SDS into the carrier's system, and a small mismatch holds a shipment at the dock.

SDS and technical portal

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A coatings and adhesives maker sells in Canada, the US and Mexico, keeps safety data sheets and technical data sheets as files by language, and its customer service team spends hours emailing the current versions.

// What we would build

A customer portal on the company's brand with every product's current SDS and technical data sheet in English, French and Spanish, versions kept with their approval history, and an assistant that helps customers choose products from the technical data sheets. It runs on an open-source model in the company's own cloud account, so formulas and drafts of new sheets never leave it. For safety questions the assistant links the current SDS and never paraphrases it.

// What is in it

  • Every product's SDS and technical data sheet, by language and region, with the current version marked
  • Version history with who approved each sheet and when, kept by your regulatory lead
  • Customers notified when a sheet they downloaded is revised
  • An assistant that answers product selection questions from the technical data sheets and cites them
  • Products and customers read from your ERP
  • A portal on your brand, in English, French and Spanish

Batch records with QC

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A specialty chemicals plant runs batches from printed tickets, operators write weights by hand, QC results are in a separate spreadsheet, and tracing a customer complaint back to raw material lots takes days.

// What we would build

Electronic batch records on rugged Android scanners at each station: the operator scans each raw material lot, the scale weight is read, not typed, and steps follow the approved formulation. QC results are read from lab instruments against the batch, and each drum is labelled from the record. Formulations are restricted by role, with every view logged.

// What is in it

  • Batch tickets from the approved formulation, step by step, on the plant floor
  • Raw material lots scanned in, and weights read from the scale
  • QC results read from instruments and set against the specification
  • Drum and tote labels printed from the record, never typed
  • Lot genealogy from raw material to customer shipment, in one search

R&D formulation assistant

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A plastics compounder has decades of formulation experiments in notebooks and spreadsheets, and its chemists start each customer request by asking the one person who remembers what was tried.

// What we would build

A custom model fine-tuned on the company's own formulation records and lab results, which suggests starting formulations for a target property and finds similar past experiments, with the records behind each suggestion. It runs on a GPU server the company owns, inside its own network, because the formulations are the business. Chemists decide what to test.

// What is in it

  • Formulation records and lab results cleaned and joined into one training set
  • A model fine-tuned on your own data, run on a GPU server you own
  • Starting formulations suggested for a target property, with the past records behind them
  • Search across every past experiment by ingredient, property or result
  • An evaluation set built with your chemists, run before every new version

Dangerous goods data hub

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A chemical distributor retypes UN numbers, classes and packing groups from the SDS and the order into two carriers' systems and its warehouse system, and a mismatch holds shipments at the dock.

// What we would build

An integration hub that takes the transport information from the approved SDS records and the order from the ERP, and passes it to the warehouse system and the carriers' booking APIs, so it is entered once. Shipping documents are prepared from this data for your trained dangerous goods staff to check and sign. Each connector is built on the system's published API; we check yours before we quote.

// What is in it

  • Transport information taken from your approved SDS records, never retyped
  • Orders from your ERPs joined with that information for each line
  • Bookings and shipping document data sent to the carriers and your warehouse system
  • Mismatches held for a person before anything leaves the dock

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A composites maker's QC results, batch yields, customer complaints and supplier lots sit in two ERPs and the lab's spreadsheets, and the monthly quality review is a week of copying.

// What we would build

Lab system rescue

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A chemical producer's lab runs on an Access database with Excel macros built fifteen years ago, its author has left, and it no longer opens on the new laptops.

// What we would build

An architecture review of the old lab system first, with a written plan, then a web-based lab system that keeps every sample, specification and result: samples logged and labelled, results entered or imported, certificates of analysis issued from the record for your quality lead to approve, and years of history moved and checked.

// What is in it

  • An architecture review and a written plan before any code changes
  • Samples, specifications and results moved from the old database and reconciled

Recycled content ledger

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A resin producer sells recycled-content grades to compounders who sell to brand owners, and each party asks for proof of the recycled share, passed along as PDFs that can be edited or counted twice.

// What we would build

A shared record where the producer records each lot's recycled content with its lab result, and each sale passes that share on to the buyer, on a private permissioned ledger each company runs a node of. A signed certificate often does this job; the ledger helps when several companies share one record and a share must never be claimed twice. Claims made to the public follow the rules your advisers set.

// What is in it

  • Recycled content recorded for each lot, with the lab result behind it
  • Each sale passes the share to the buyer, so it cannot be claimed twice
  • A private chain with a node for producer, compounders and brand owners
  • Lot lookups for buyers, with the documents attached
  • Lots and sales read from your ERP

Go deeper on one kind of work.

Pages for the services we have the most to say about in this industry.

// questions

What buyers in this industry ask us.

Do you work with chemical companies across Canada?

Yes. We are in British Columbia and work with chemical producers, distributors and materials makers anywhere; we set our working hours around yours. Prices are in Canadian dollars.

Do you sign off on safety, transport or regulatory content?

No. SDS content, shipping documents and formulations are approved by your own responsible people. We build to the requirements they set.

How do payments work?

A deposit to start, then payments at agreed milestones, with 10% held until 30 days after launch. The deposit is a smaller share on larger projects.

Who owns the software?

You do, once the work is paid for, including any model trained on your data.
