Aerospace provenance

Supplier certificates recorded once on a private ledger.

Part provenance is a record several companies write to and all of them rely on. When a prime and its main suppliers each run a node of the same ledger, a certificate recorded once cannot be swapped later. It is a narrow case, and we will tell you when the prime's own database is enough.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Fingerprinted at upload

Each certificate and test report is fingerprinted when it is uploaded, so a changed document shows when it is checked.

02

A node for each party

The prime and its main suppliers each hold a copy; smaller suppliers upload through the portal.

03

In your tenant

The portal and the ledger run in the prime's own cloud tenant in a Canadian region, or on premises.

04

When a database is enough

If suppliers already accept the prime's records, a well-audited database is cheaper. The ledger helps when several companies must rely on each other's entries.

Supplier provenance ledger

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A prime and its tier suppliers exchange certificates of conformance and test reports by email, and confirming that a part is genuine and traceable depends on finding the right attachment.

// What we would build

A supplier portal where certificates and test reports are uploaded against purchase orders and serial numbers, recorded on a private permissioned ledger that the prime and its main suppliers each run a node of, so the provenance record cannot be quietly edited. If the prime's own records are trusted by all, a database is cheaper, and we will say so.

// What is in it

  • Certificates and test reports uploaded against purchase orders and serials
  • Each document fingerprinted and recorded on a private chain with a node per party
  • Provenance from a part back to the original manufacturer's certificate
  • Alerts when a certificate is missing, expired or does not match
  • Hosted in the prime's own cloud tenant in a Canadian region

// Stack

  • Next.js
  • Hyperledger Besu (private, permissioned)
  • PostgreSQL
  • Azure Canada

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Does the provenance ledger detect counterfeit parts?

It makes the paper trail hard to fake. Counterfeit detection also needs inspection and testing under your quality programme.

Is any controlled data on the ledger?

No. Documents stay in your storage; the ledger holds fingerprints and records of who uploaded what and when.

Do suppliers need special software?

No. They use the web portal. Running a node is optional, for suppliers who want their own copy.
