Utility field app

Inspections and work orders, offline and on your GIS map.

Utility field apps often come bundled with an asset suite and fit the suite better than the crew. We build the inspection and work order app around how your inspectors and crews actually work, offline, on your GIS map, and send what they find to the asset system you already run.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

The network on the phone

Your GIS layers are on the device, so an inspector finds the pole on the map rather than by the number painted on it.

02

Offline in the back country

Maps, forms and work orders are kept on the device and synced when the truck reaches coverage.

03

Defects become work

A defect raised at the pole becomes a work order in your asset system with its photos and priority, without anyone retyping it.

04

Structured data, not free text

Inspection forms are built per asset type, so findings can be counted, planned and reported.

Example projectWeb appMobile appMaterials tracking

Line crew inspection app

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A distribution utility inspects poles, lines and transformers on paper forms, and defects reach the work plan late, often missing photos and locations.

// What we would build

An iOS and Android app for inspectors and crews that works offline on a map of the network, with structured inspections, photos and defects that become work orders, and a web back office for planners tied to the GIS and the asset system.

// What is in it

  • Tools, spares and vehicles tracked by QR code and GPS across service areas
  • Inspection forms per asset type, on a map of the network from your GIS
  • Defects with photos, location and priority, raised at the pole
  • Work orders created from defects and dispatched to crews
  • Offline maps and forms for areas with no coverage
  • Sync with your asset management system, such as SAP or Maximo
  • Dashboards of open defects by circuit and priority

// Stack

  • React Native
  • Next.js
  • PostgreSQL with PostGIS
  • Esri ArcGIS APIs
  • IBM Maximo or SAP integration
  • Microsoft Azure

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Can a utility field app work with Esri and Maximo?

Yes. ArcGIS, Maximo and SAP Plant Maintenance all have APIs we work with; we confirm your versions and configuration before quoting.

Do our line crews need new devices?

Not usually. The app runs on current iOS and Android phones and tablets, including the rugged ones your crews may already carry.

How is data protected on a lost device?

Data on the device is encrypted, sessions expire and a lost device can be signed out remotely. We work to the security requirements your team sets.
