Food safety apps

Floor records and wholesale ordering for food companies.

Food companies are asked for two things at once: records that stand up to an inspector, and ordering as easy as a consumer app. We build the floor app that keeps the records as the work happens and the ordering app your restaurant and grocery customers use, both tied to the systems you already run.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Records made at the moment of the check

Temperatures and checks are logged on a tablet at the station, time-stamped and signed, with the corrective action prompted when a limit is missed.

02

A trace on demand

Lot codes scanned at receiving, production and shipping let anyone with the right role trace a lot one step back and one step forward, for a mock recall or a real one.

03

Orders that arrive complete

Customers order from their own guide and price list before the cut-off, so the warehouse gets complete orders, not voicemails.

04

Built for gloves and wet floors

Large buttons, barcode scanning and rugged Android tablets, because typing on glass with wet gloves does not work.

Food safety and traceability app

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A food processor keeps its HACCP logs, sanitation checks and lot records on paper, so an audit means hunting through binders and a mock recall takes far too long.

// What we would build

An Android tablet app on the floor for critical control point checks, sanitation and corrective actions, with lot codes scanned at receiving and production, and a web back office that traces any lot one step back and one step forward on demand.

// What is in it

  • Critical control point checks on tablets, with limits and corrective actions prompted
  • Cooler and freezer temperatures read from wireless sensors, with alerts out of range
  • Lot codes scanned at receiving, production and shipping
  • One step back and one step forward trace for any lot, exported for the inspector
  • Sanitation schedules and sign-offs with photos
  • Record retention set to the rules your food safety team names, such as the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations

// Stack

  • Next.js
  • React Native (Android tablets)
  • PostgreSQL
  • LoRaWAN temperature sensors
  • GS1-128 barcode scanning
  • AWS

Wholesale ordering app

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A specialty food distributor takes orders from restaurants and grocers by phone, text and email until late at night, and the mistakes show up on the truck.

// What we would build

A web and mobile ordering app where each customer sees its own price list, order guide and delivery days, orders until the cut-off and pays invoices online, with orders flowing straight into the warehouse system.

// What is in it

  • Customers, invoices and payments kept in step with QuickBooks Online, built on the QuickBooks Online API
  • Customer-specific price lists, order guides and par levels
  • Cut-off times and delivery days per route
  • Substitutions offered when an item is short
  • Invoices and statements paid online
  • Orders sent straight to the warehouse and accounting systems
  • Sales reps order on behalf of customers from the same app

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Does a digital food safety system satisfy the CFIA?

Inspectors look at whether your records are complete, accurate and available. Digital records can meet that, and we build them to the requirements your food safety team names, but the preventive control plan and its acceptance remain yours.

Can we keep our ERP for production and lots?

Yes. If the ERP already holds lots and recipes, the floor app reads from it and writes the checks back. We fill the gap rather than duplicate it.

Will restaurants actually use an ordering app?

Most will if it is faster than calling: their usual order on one screen, a reminder before the cut-off and invoices in the same place. Your reps can still order for those who prefer the phone.
