Software for Nations

Membership, housing and lands, held where you decide.

Administration software is often built for a municipality or a company and adapted afterwards. We build around how your government and your programs actually work, and we design for data sovereignty first: your data, held where you decide, with access you control.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Your data, where you decide

On a server the Nation owns, in a Canadian cloud account in the Nation's name, or both. Following the OCAP principles, the community decides where data lives and who sees it.

02

Access set by your governance

Access to sensitive records can require approval through your own council or committee process, and every view and change is logged.

03

Works in outlying areas

Field apps for housing and lands staff store their work and sync when they reach a connection.

04

Your language, with care

Your language shown with its own characters, including syllabics where needed, with content reviewed by your language keepers.

Membership, programs, notices

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An administration keeps its membership list, program enrolments and contact details in separate spreadsheets, and community notices go out by posters, a social media page and phone calls.

// What we would build

A membership and administration system the Nation hosts on its own server, with access to sensitive records approved through the Nation's own governance, program enrolment for staff, and a community app for notices and updates in English and the Nation's language. The data stays where the Nation decides, following the OCAP principles.

// What is in it

  • Membership or citizenship records kept by the Nation, with every view and change logged
  • Access rules set by the Nation, including approvals for sensitive records
  • Program enrolment and eligibility, so families are not entered twice
  • A community app and email for notices, events and updates
  • The Nation's language shown with its own characters, reviewed by language keepers
  • A server owned by the Nation, with backups it controls

// Stack

  • Next.js
  • React Native
  • PostgreSQL
  • Server owned by the Nation
  • Encrypted backups

Housing and maintenance

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A housing department tracks units, the waitlist and repair requests on paper and in spreadsheets, and maintenance staff in outlying areas cannot see the request history for a home.

// What we would build

A housing system for units, tenancies, the waitlist and inspections, with an iOS and Android app maintenance staff use offline, and rent charges posted to QuickBooks Online, built on the QuickBooks Online API.

// What is in it

  • Units, tenancies and the waitlist in one place
  • Repair requests from tenants by phone, app or front desk
  • Inspections and repairs logged offline with photos
  • Maintenance history for each home, for planning and funding applications
  • Rent charges posted to QuickBooks Online

Lands, resources and referrals

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A lands department receives permit and consultation referrals by email from several ministries and companies, each with a deadline, and tracks them in a spreadsheet one person understands.

// What we would build

A web system that logs every referral with its deadline, area and documents, routes it to the right staff and committee, records the Nation's response, and keeps sensitive site information behind access rules the Nation sets.

// What is in it

  • Referrals logged with their source, area, documents and response deadline
  • Reminders before every deadline, to the people responsible
  • Responses and correspondence kept with each referral
  • Map layers from the Nation's own GIS, with sensitive layers restricted
  • A history of every referral in an area, for future negotiations

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Can it run on our own server in the community?

Yes. We can set up a server the Nation owns, with backups it controls, or use a Canadian cloud account in the Nation's name. The choice is yours.

Who owns the data and the code?

The Nation owns its data from the start, and the code once the work is paid for. We do not keep copies of community data.

Do you follow the OCAP principles?

We design for community ownership, control, access and possession of data, following the OCAP principles. We do not claim any certification; your data governance decides how they apply.

Not quite your project?
