Law firm client portal

Privileged documents and matter status, off email.

Clients now expect to see their matter the way they see a parcel in transit. We build a portal that gives them that, and replaces email attachments for privileged documents, without asking your practitioners and staff to work in another system: it connects to the practice management tools you already use.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Privilege by design

Documents are encrypted, every view and download is logged, and access is per matter and per person, so the record shows who saw what and when.

02

No double entry

Matters, contacts, tasks and invoices come from Clio or your practice management system, so staff update one place and the portal follows.

03

Trust rules respected

Invoice payments go through your processor to the right account. Trust funds are handled the way your law society's rules and your accounting system require.

04

Your brand, not ours

The portal carries the firm's name and look, and runs in a cloud account you own, in Canada if your clients expect it.

Secure law firm client portal

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A firm exchanges privileged documents with clients by email attachment, and clients phone to ask where their matter stands and what they owe.

// What we would build

A branded web portal where clients sign in with two-factor authentication, exchange documents on each matter, see status and next steps, sign engagement letters and pay invoices, connected to the firm's practice management system.

// What is in it

  • Document exchange per matter, encrypted at rest and in transit
  • Matter status, key dates and tasks for the client
  • Engagement letters signed in the portal
  • Invoices paid by card or bank transfer through your processor
  • Integration with Clio or your practice management system
  • English and French for clients

// Stack

  • Next.js
  • PostgreSQL
  • Clio or practice management API
  • Electronic signature API
  • Microsoft Azure

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Does the portal replace our practice software?

No. It sits in front of it. Matters, contacts and billing stay in your practice management system; the portal shows clients what they need and sends back what they upload.

Can clients sign retainers and engagement letters?

Yes, through an electronic signature service, with the signed copy filed to the matter automatically.

Where are client documents stored in the portal?

In a cloud account the firm owns, in the region you choose. We set it up and hand you the keys; we do not keep a copy.
