Oil and gas field apps

Tickets, surveys and equipment, even offline.

Field software for oil and gas fails in one place: the lease with no signal. We build the app to work there first, then connect it to invoicing, the historian and the yard, so a ticket or a survey is complete when the truck leaves the site.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Offline is the normal case

Every form, photo and signature is stored on the device and synced over cell or satellite when a link appears, with conflicts shown to a supervisor instead of overwritten.

02

Signed at the wellhead

Customer signatures are captured with the ticket and the time, so an invoice goes out with proof of the work attached.

03

Permits before work

Safe work permits, H2S checks and hazard assessments are part of the job flow, and the app will not open the ticket until they are done.

04

Equipment that reports where it is

GPS trackers on large items and on-metal RFID on tools, read at the yard gate, so the map shows what is on which lease.

Offline field ticket app

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An oilfield service company writes field tickets on paper in areas with no signal, and invoices go out late because tickets are lost or unsigned.

// What we would build

An iOS and Android app that captures field tickets, run tickets, hours, equipment and the customer's signature with no signal at all, syncs when a satellite or cell link returns, and turns approved tickets into invoices posted to QuickBooks Online, built on the QuickBooks Online API.

// What is in it

  • Field tickets and run tickets with hours, equipment, materials and photos
  • Customer signature on the device, stored with the ticket and the time
  • Safe work permits and H2S checks attached to the job before work starts
  • Works with no signal and syncs over satellite or cell when it can
  • Approved tickets posted as invoices to QuickBooks Online

// Stack

  • React Native
  • SQLite on the device

Leak surveys and emissions

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An operator's leak detection surveys, repairs and venting volumes live in spreadsheets, field notes and the historian, and every reporting period is assembled by hand.

// What we would build

A field app for leak detection and repair surveys and a web system that joins them with venting and flaring volumes from the historian, so the period's emissions report is built from records with a full audit trail. We scope the federal and Alberta reporting rules with your regulatory team; we do not give legal advice.

// What is in it

  • Survey routes, components and leaks recorded on the device, offline
  • Repairs tracked to closure, with photos and re-survey dates
  • Venting and flaring volumes read from the historian
  • Period reports built from the records, with every change logged
  • Reporting formats set with your regulatory team, editable as rules change

GPS and RFID equipment tracking

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A service company with tools, tanks and downhole equipment spread across dozens of leases cannot say what is where, so it re-rents equipment it already owns.

// What we would build

GPS trackers on tanks and trailers, on-metal RFID tags and labels on tools, handheld readers in the yards, and a map and app that show where every item is, who has it and when it is due for inspection.

// What is in it

  • GPS trackers on large equipment, with location history by lease
  • On-metal RFID tags and barcoded labels on tools and downhole equipment
  • Check-out and check-in at the yard with a handheld reader
  • Inspection and certification dates with reminders
  • A map for dispatch and an app for drivers and yard staff

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Does the app work on satellite links like Starlink?

Yes. It syncs over whatever link the truck or site has, and sends only what changed, so a slow or expensive link is used sparingly.

Can field tickets go straight into our accounting?

Yes. Approved tickets can post to QuickBooks Online, built on its API, or to a larger ERP through its interfaces. Ticket pricing follows your rate sheets.

Can operators sign tickets for the service company?

Yes. The operator's representative signs on the device, or approves from a link later when there is signal, and both are recorded.
