Marine tech review

A clear view of a stalled build before you spend more on it.

When a vendor rebuild stalls, the hardest question is whether to finish it or start again. We review the code, the hosting and the data, write down what is worth keeping, then take the work on as a rescue in milestones you sign off, with your old system running until the new one is ready.

// what matters here

What is different in this industry.

01

Findings in writing

What the stalled build does, what holds up, what does not, and what each path will take.

02

The old system keeps running

Your Access database or old app stays in use until the new one is ready and every record is checked.

03

Milestones you sign off

The rescue is planned in milestones, each one shown working before the next begins.

Repair yard work orders, rescued

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A ship repair yard paid a vendor to replace its Access database for work orders and equipment maintenance; the rebuild stalled half done, and the yard still runs on the old database.

// What we would build

An architecture review first, with a written finding on what in the stalled build is worth keeping, then a rescue: the work-order system finished on the parts that hold up, an Android tablet app for the yard floor, equipment maintenance schedules, and every record moved from Access and checked. Hours and parts post to QuickBooks Online. Maintenance intervals are the ones your engineers set.

// What is in it

  • An architecture review of the stalled build, in writing
  • Work orders by vessel, job and trade, with hours and parts
  • An Android tablet app for the yard floor, with photos
  • Maintenance schedules for cranes, lifts and shop equipment
  • Every record moved from Access and checked line by line
  • Hours and parts posted to QuickBooks Online

// Stack

  • Next.js
  • Kotlin for Android
  • PostgreSQL
  • QuickBooks Online API

// questions

Questions we get about this.

Can you review a vendor's work on our yard system?

Yes. A second opinion on code an agency or vendor delivered is a common start, and the findings are yours to keep.

Do we have to hire you for the rescue after the review?

No. The written findings are yours, and you can take them to any team.

How do you move records out of an old Access database?

We map every table, move the records, and check them line by line against the old system before you switch.

Not quite your project?

Tell us what you have in mind. We will come back to you with a range and the questions that would narrow it. Or book a call and talk it through.
