labs@atheron:~/industries/ports-marine$ plan --berths --gates --vessels

Port software

Every call, berth and truck on one board.

Your vessel calls live in emails from agents, your berth plan on a whiteboard, and your truck bookings on the phone. We build the systems that keep calls, berths, gates, documents and maintenance in one place, so your team plans from the same picture and your customers stop calling to ask.

// what you are up against

The problems we hear most.

01

Berths planned on a whiteboard

Arrival times change by the hour, agents send updates by email, and the berth plan only lives on a board or in one planner's spreadsheet.

02

Trucks queue at the gate

Truck arrivals are booked by phone or not at all, so the gate jams at peak times and sits idle at others.

03

Certificates chased by email

Crew and vessel certificates arrive as PDFs in inboxes, expiry dates are tracked by hand, and nobody is sure which copy is current.

04

Maintenance in an old database

Work orders and equipment history sit in an Access database or a vendor app that stopped being updated, and only one person knows how it works.

Vessel calls and berth planning

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A terminal plans berths on a whiteboard from agents' emails, so arrival changes reach the planner late and crane and labour bookings are redone by phone.

// What we would build

A web system where agents submit and update vessel calls, the planner drags calls onto a berth timeline that shows estimated arrivals from an AIS data provider, and cranes, labour and services are booked against each call. Hosted and run for you on AWS, with monitoring and backups. Vessel positions are for planning only, never for navigation.

// What is in it

  • An agent portal for vessel call requests, updates and documents
  • A berth timeline with drag-to-plan and clash warnings
  • Estimated arrivals from an AIS data provider, shown beside the agent's own times
  • Cranes, labour, pilots and services booked against each call
  • A link to your terminal operating system for confirmed calls
  • Hosting, monitoring and backups run for you

Truck appointments at the gate

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A container terminal takes truck bookings by phone, so the gate is jammed at peak hours, drivers wait in line, and the clerks retype container numbers.

// What we would build

A booking site and an iOS and Android app where trucking companies book time slots against containers that are ready, a QR code the gate scans on arrival, and plate and container readers at the gate that match the truck to its booking. Slot rules and limits are set by your operations team.

// What is in it

  • Time slots by gate and by hour, with limits your team sets
  • Bookings checked against container status in your terminal system
  • A driver app with the QR code, in English and French
  • Plate and container readers at the gate matched to bookings
  • No-show and late arrival reports by trucking company

Marina bookings and help centre

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A group of marinas takes slip and moorage bookings by phone and email, keeps boaters' documents in a filing cabinet, and answers the same questions about fuel, pump-outs and rates all season.

// What we would build

A booking site designed around your brand where boaters reserve transient slips and seasonal moorage and pay online, upload insurance and registration documents, and find answers in a help centre with an assistant in several languages. Bookings and payments are posted to QuickBooks Online, built on its API.

// What is in it

  • Online payment, with deposits and seasonal instalments
  • Insurance and registration documents uploaded and checked before arrival

Port activity dashboard

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A port authority pulls vessel movements, berth use and cargo figures from several systems and AIS feeds into spreadsheets for every monthly report.

// What we would build

A data warehouse that takes AIS feeds, the terminal system and berth records on a schedule, checks them for gaps and duplicates, and shows calls, dwell times, berth use and cargo on dashboards, with the monthly report filled in automatically. For planning and reporting, never for navigation.

// What is in it

  • AIS feeds from two providers, joined and checked for gaps
  • Calls, dwell times and berth use by terminal and by month
  • Cargo figures from the terminal system, with one written definition each
  • The monthly report filled in automatically
  • A map of vessel positions for planning, clearly marked not for navigation

Terminal systems hub

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A terminal runs a terminal operating system, a gate system, billing and a port community system that do not talk to each other, so staff copy vessel and container data between them all day.

// What we would build

An integration hub that keeps the terminal operating system, the gate system, billing and the port community system in step through one internal API, with webhooks for changes, retries when a system is down, and a log of every message. Built on each system's published API; we check yours before we quote.

// What is in it

  • One internal API for vessels, calls, containers and invoices
  • Connectors to four systems, each with its own limits handled
  • Webhooks when a call or a container changes
  • Retries and a dead-letter queue, so nothing is lost or doubled
  • Monitoring and a searchable log of every message

Shared vessel document register

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

Shipping agents, terminals and ship repair yards each ask for the same crew and vessel certificates, PDFs are passed along by email, and no one can tell whether a copy has been changed or has expired.

// What we would build

A register where the issuing party or the vessel's agent uploads each certificate once, its fingerprint recorded on a private permissioned ledger that agents, terminals and yards each run a node of, with expiry reminders and a lookup for everyone the agent grants access. A shared portal with signed PDFs often does this job; the ledger helps when several organisations rely on the same record and none wants to hold it for the others.

// What is in it

  • Certificates uploaded once, against the vessel or crew member
  • Each document fingerprinted on a private ledger with a node for each organisation
  • Expiry reminders to the agent and the vessel's manager
  • Access granted by the agent, call by call
  • Personal details kept off the ledger, only fingerprints on it

Repair yard work orders, rescued

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A ship repair yard paid a vendor to replace its Access database for work orders and equipment maintenance; the rebuild stalled half done, and the yard still runs on the old database.

// What we would build

An architecture review first, with a written finding on what in the stalled build is worth keeping, then a rescue: the work-order system finished on the parts that hold up, an Android tablet app for the yard floor, equipment maintenance schedules, and every record moved from Access and checked. Hours and parts post to QuickBooks Online. Maintenance intervals are the ones your engineers set.

// What is in it

  • An architecture review of the stalled build, in writing
  • Work orders by vessel, job and trade, with hours and parts
  • An Android tablet app for the yard floor, with photos
  • Maintenance schedules for cranes, lifts and shop equipment
  • Every record moved from Access and checked line by line

// questions

What buyers in this industry ask us.

Do you work with ports and marinas across Canada?

Yes. We are in British Columbia and work with port authorities, terminals, shipping agents, ferry operators, marinas and repair yards anywhere; we set our working hours around yours. Prices are in Canadian dollars.

Do you give safety or regulatory advice?

No. We build to the requirements your harbour master, your engineers and your advisers set, and vessel positions in our systems are for planning, never navigation.

How do payments work?

A deposit to start, then payments at agreed milestones, with 10% held until 30 days after launch. The deposit is a smaller share on larger projects.

Who owns the software?

You do, once the work is paid for, including the integrations and the data we move across.
