Fisheries software

From the net or the pen to the buyer, on record.

Your catch is logged on paper at sea, your pens are watched on three different screens, and every buyer wants to know where a lot came from. We build the systems that record catch, quota, feed, mortality and lots as the work happens, so your reports, your audits and your buyers' questions start from data.

// what you are up against

The problems we hear most.

01

Catch logs on paper

Skippers fill in logbooks at sea, someone retypes them ashore, and quota left on each licence is only known after the spreadsheet catches up.

02

Sensors on separate screens

Oxygen, temperature and feeding systems each have their own screen, and an alarm at night depends on someone happening to look.

03

Feed and mortality by hand

Feed, mortality and treatment records are written on whiteboards and clipboards, then typed into a spreadsheet when someone has time.

04

Traceability rebuilt for each buyer

Every buyer asks where a lot came from, and the answer means digging through landing slips, pen records and processor sheets.

Catch log and quota tracking

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A fishing company with several vessels keeps catch logs on paper, retypes them ashore, and only knows how much quota is left on each licence days after each trip.

// What we would build

An iOS and Android app for skippers that logs sets, catch and bycatch at sea without signal and syncs when back in range, and a web system ashore that tracks catch against each licence and quota, with landing slips matched to trips. Reporting rules and licence conditions are the ones your fishery advisers set; we do not interpret regulations.

// What is in it

  • Sets, catch, bycatch and positions logged at sea, offline
  • Trips synced when the vessel is back in range
  • Catch tracked against each licence and quota, with alerts as it runs low
  • Landing slips and buyer weights matched to trips
  • Reports in the format your advisers specify, for your review before they are sent
  • A design built for gloves, wet screens and bright sun

Pen and tank monitoring

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A salmon farm with several sites reads oxygen, temperature and feeding on separate screens, and a low-oxygen alarm at night depends on someone looking at the right one.

// What we would build

A web dashboard that reads oxygen, temperature and salinity sensors at every pen and tank through gateways at each site, keeps the history when the site link drops, and sends alarms to the on-call staff on Telegram, who acknowledge them from the bot. Alarm limits are the ones your farm manager and veterinarian set.

// What is in it

  • Oxygen, temperature and salinity by pen and tank, live
  • Edge gateways at each site that keep readings when the link drops
  • Alarms on Telegram to the on-call person, acknowledged from the bot
  • Escalation to the next person when an alarm is not acknowledged

Grading at processor intake

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A processor sorts species and grades fish by eye at the intake line, so grades vary by shift and disputes with harvesters over grade are hard to settle.

// What we would build

A custom model fine-tuned on photos from your own intake line that suggests species and grade for each fish or tote, with the grader confirming or correcting each one, and a web screen that records grades against each delivery. The model learns from the corrections, and every change is checked against a held-back set of your photos before it goes live.

// What is in it

  • Photos from your intake line labelled with your graders
  • A model fine-tuned on your species and grades
  • Suggestions the grader confirms or corrects, one tap each
  • Grades recorded against each delivery and harvester
  • An evaluation on a held-back set of your photos before every change

Assistant over farm records

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

Site staff on a fish farm search SOPs, feed tables and past health records spread across shared drives, and new staff call the site manager for every question.

// What we would build

An assistant that answers from the farm's own SOPs, feed tables and records and cites the document it used, on an open-source model hosted in the farm's own cloud account so the records stay private. It answers operational questions only. Health and treatment decisions stay with your veterinarian.

// What is in it

  • SOPs, feed tables and site records indexed and kept current
  • Answers that cite the document and section they come from
  • Only the current, approved version of each SOP is used
  • An open-source model served on GPUs in your own cloud account

Boat or pen to buyer traceability

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

Buyers ask harvesters and processors where each lot came from, and the answer is pieced together from landing slips, pen records and processor sheets passed along by email.

// What we would build

A traceability system where harvesters or farms, the processor and buyers each record their step against the lot, with each record fingerprinted on a private permissioned ledger the parties each run a node of, and a QR code on each case that shows buyers the lot's path in their language. A shared database run by the processor often does this job; the ledger helps when several harvesters, processors and buyers share one record and none wants to hold it for the others.

// What is in it

  • Catch or harvest, landing, processing and shipping recorded against each lot
  • Each step fingerprinted on a private ledger with a node for each party
  • A QR code on each case that shows buyers the lot's path
  • Buyer pages in English, French, Japanese and other languages you choose
  • Only what each party agrees to share is shown to buyers

Processor systems hub

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A processor's scales, ERP and label printers do not talk to each other, so weights are retyped, labels are checked by eye, and buyers wait for lot details by email.

// What we would build

An integration hub that takes weights from the intake and packing scales, keeps lots and orders in step with the ERP, sends lot details to the label printing system, and gives buyers an API with webhooks to pull lot and shipment data themselves. Built on each system's published API or file exchange; we check yours before we quote.

// What is in it

  • Weights from intake and packing scales recorded against each lot
  • Lots and orders kept in step with your ERP
  • Lot details sent to label printing, never typed
  • A buyer API with keys, webhooks and versioned endpoints
  • Retries, monitoring and a log of every message

Hatchery records rebuilt

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A hatchery runs broodstock, egg, feed and mortality records in a set of Excel workbooks full of macros that one retired staff member wrote, and each new season risks breaking them.

// What we would build

// questions

What buyers in this industry ask us.

Do you work with fisheries and farms across Canada?

Yes. We are in British Columbia and work with fishing operators, processors, fish farms, hatcheries and First Nations fisheries anywhere; we set our working hours around yours. Prices are in Canadian dollars.

Do you give regulatory or veterinary advice?

No. We build to the requirements your advisers, fishery managers, biologists and veterinarian set.

How do payments work?

A deposit to start, then payments at agreed milestones, with 10% held until 30 days after launch. The deposit is a smaller share on larger projects.

Who owns the software and the data?

You do, once the work is paid for, including the models trained on your photos and the records we move across.
