Marketplace and gig apps

Both sides served, every payout right.

You have to win buyers and sellers at once, split every payment correctly, check listings before buyers see them, and launch the next city without the first build falling over. We build the marketplaces, worker apps and trust tools that keep both sides coming back, with money moving through a payment provider, never through us.

// what you are up against

The problems we hear most.

01

Two sides at once

Buyers come for choice and sellers come for buyers, so a marketplace has to serve both well from the first day.

02

Every payout split right

Each order is split between sellers, the platform and refunds, and a mistake in payouts costs trust faster than anything else.

03

Listings that need checking

Fake listings, banned items and abuse have to be caught before buyers see them, and moderators cannot read everything.

04

A first build that buckles

The first version worked for one city, and the second launch exposed every shortcut in search, payments and data.

// example projects

Systems we could build for you.

Each one is hypothetical, labelled as such, and priced live from our rate card. Open any of them in the estimator and make it yours.

Two-sided marketplace with split payouts

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A founder wants to launch a services marketplace that connects customers with independent providers, with bookings, payments and payouts handled properly from day one.

// What we would build

A web and iOS and Android marketplace: provider onboarding with identity checks, listings and search, bookings and payments, split payouts to providers through Stripe Connect, ratings and an operations back office.

// What is in it

  • Provider onboarding with identity checks through a provider
  • Listings, search and filters that match buyers to sellers
  • Bookings, payments and refunds
  • Split payouts to providers through Stripe Connect
  • Ratings and reviews from real transactions only
  • An operations back office for support and disputes

Worker app with live dispatch

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An on-demand delivery platform dispatches jobs by group chat, workers cannot see their earnings until payday, and customers have no idea where their order is.

// What we would build

A worker app and a customer app with live dispatch: jobs offered to nearby workers who accept in the app, live status for the customer, earnings and payouts the worker can see, and a dispatch board for operations.

// What is in it

  • Live job status for the customer

Listing moderation assistant

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A second-hand marketplace's moderators cannot read every new listing, so fake listings and banned items sit live for hours before someone reports them.

// What we would build

A moderation assistant that reads every new listing and its photos, scores it against the marketplace's own rules, and sends doubtful ones to a person's review queue, with the reasons attached. It runs on an open-source model in the marketplace's own cloud account, because volume is high and listings include personal details; people make every final decision.

// What is in it

  • Every new listing checked against your own rules
  • Doubtful listings sent to a review queue with reasons
  • Moderators decide, and their decisions improve the rules
  • Works in the languages your sellers write in
  • Runs in your own cloud account

Marketplace metrics dashboard

A marketplace's founders track supply, demand and take rate in spreadsheets, and cannot tell which cities or categories are healthy until revenue drops.

// What we would build

Payments, identity and accounting hub

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A gig platform's team copies payout reports from the payment provider into accounting, re-checks identity results by hand and chases failed payouts by email.

// What we would build

An integration hub between the marketplace, the payment provider, the identity check service, the CRM and accounting, so payouts, verifications and refunds flow to the right place once and failures are flagged at once.

// What is in it

  • Payouts and fees posted to accounting
  • Identity check results written to each account

Portable seller reputation

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

Freelancers on a niche skills marketplace lose their ratings when they move between platforms, and new sellers struggle to prove their track record.

// What we would build

Completed jobs and ratings issued to sellers as verifiable records on a public chain, which they can show anywhere and which no platform can quietly delete. Buyers check a seller's record without a wallet. If your sellers only ever work on your marketplace, a database is simpler, and we will say so.

// by service

Go deeper on one kind of work.

Pages for the services we have the most to say about in this industry.

// questions

What buyers in this industry ask us.

Do you build marketplaces for first-time founders?

Yes. A focused first marketplace suits a founder testing one city or category, and the estimator shows the range for your scope.

Do you ever hold marketplace money?

No. Payments and payouts move through a payment provider. We never hold buyers' or sellers' money.

How do payments work?

A deposit to start, then payments at agreed milestones, with 10% held until 30 days after launch. The deposit is a smaller share on larger projects.

Who owns the code?

You do, once the work is paid for.

// where we work

Find your market.

We work from Kelowna with clients across Canada, the United States and further afield. Each market page covers working hours, hosting, the privacy law that applies, and prices in your currency.
