Apps for firms

Less chasing, more billable work.

Your team chases documents by email, cannot find the proposal you wrote two years ago, and sees utilisation a month late. We build the client portals, knowledge tools and dashboards that give a firm its time back. The software finds and organises your own work; the advice stays with your people.

// what you are up against

The problems we hear most.

01

Documents chased by email

Staff send the same document requests again and again, and files arrive by email, in pieces and under the wrong names.

02

Past work nobody can find

Years of proposals, reports and drawings sit in shared drives, and the person who knew where things were has moved on.

03

Utilisation a month late

Time, billing and project data live in separate systems, so partners see who was overloaded only after the month closes.

04

An in-house tool nobody owns

A tool built years ago runs a key part of the firm, and nobody left knows how it works or how to change it.

// example projects

Systems we could build for you.

Each one is hypothetical, labelled as such, and priced live from our rate card. Open any of them in the estimator and make it yours.

Client portal with document requests

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An accounting firm chases every client for the same documents each year by email, receives files in pieces, and sends engagement letters and invoices as attachments.

// What we would build

A secure portal for the firm's clients: document requests with checklists and reminders, uploads that land in the right engagement, e-signature for engagement letters, and invoices and payments, connected to the practice management system.

// What is in it

  • Document requests with checklists and reminders
  • Uploads filed to the right client and engagement
  • Engagement letters signed in the portal
  • Invoices and online payment
  • Access limited, logged and set by the firm
  • Connected to your practice management system

Knowledge assistant over past work

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A consultancy's staff spend hours finding past proposals, reports and methods in shared drives, and new joiners never find them at all.

// What we would build

A search and question tool over the firm's own documents, which answers with the passages it found and links to the sources, so staff can reuse past work. It runs on an open-source model in the firm's own cloud account, because client documents should not reach an outside model provider, and it gives no professional advice of its own.

// What is in it

  • Search and questions over your own documents
  • Every answer with the passages and links it used
  • Access follows your existing folder permissions
  • No professional advice, only your own past work
  • Runs in your own cloud account

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An architecture practice sees time in one system, invoices in another and project budgets in spreadsheets, and learns a project ran over only when it is finished.

Practice management and accounting sync

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A bookkeeping firm retypes invoices and payments from its practice management system into QuickBooks Online, and the two never quite agree at month end.

// What we would build

A two-way integration between the practice management system and QuickBooks Online, with a small admin screen, so invoices, payments and clients are entered once and stay in step, with every change logged.

// What is in it

  • Invoices and payments synced both ways
  • Clients and services kept in step
  • Every change logged, with alerts on conflicts
  • A screen to review and resolve mismatches

Timestamped deliverables

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

An engineering firm is sometimes asked to prove which version of a report or drawing it issued, and when, and its file server dates are easy to dispute.

// What we would build

Each issued deliverable's fingerprint is recorded on a public blockchain at the moment it is issued, so the firm can later show that a file existed in that exact form at that time without revealing its contents. If an internal log your clients already trust is enough, a database is simpler, and we will say so.

// What is in it

  • A fingerprint of each issued file recorded at issue
  • Proof of exact content and time, without revealing the file
  • A register of what was issued, to whom and when
  • Checkable by anyone with the file
  • Contracts audited before launch

Rescue of an old in-house tool

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A consulting firm's resourcing and proposal tool was built in-house years ago, runs on one old server, and nobody left at the firm can change it.

// What we would build

We review the old tool, write down what it does, and rebuild it as a supported web app with the data moved across and checked, running both side by side until the firm is ready to switch the old one off.

// What is in it

  • A plain written review of the old tool and its data
  • The same work rebuilt on a supported stack
  • Every record moved and checked
  • Both tools side by side until you switch
  • Documented, so the next person can change it

Technical lead for a client product

Hypothetical. Not a client, not a result.

// The problem

A consultancy wants to turn a method it sells as advice into a paid web product for clients, and has nobody to plan the technology, hire for it or check a vendor's quote.

// What we would build

A fractional technical lead who reviews the idea, writes the plan and the build-or-buy choices, and then leads the first version: a client web app with sign-in, subscriptions and reports. The estimate here prices that first build; the review comes first and is quoted on a call.

// What is in it

  • A review of the idea, the risks and the choices
  • A written plan and build-or-buy decisions
  • The first version: sign-in, subscriptions and reports
  • Help hiring, or checking vendor quotes

Go deeper on one kind of work.

Pages for the services we have the most to say about in this industry.

// questions

What buyers in this industry ask us.

Do you work with small firms and sole practitioners?

Yes. A client portal or a sync suits a small firm, and the estimator shows the range for your scope.

Does the software give professional advice?

No. It finds, organises and routes your own work. Advice stays with your people.

How do payments work?

A deposit to start, then payments at agreed milestones, with 10% held until 30 days after launch. The deposit is a smaller share on larger projects.

Who owns the code?

You do, once the work is paid for.
